We are a non profit, independent group in the Toronto area that are dedicated to providing quality wide area communications throughout southern and central Ontario.
Originally formed as the Golden Horseshoe repeater club in the early 90's, consisting of a group of hams graduated mostly from the 11 meter outband. after several years of political dilemma, and personal priorities, the group eventually disbanded, leaving a few operators lingering on the repeater.
I was able to keep the main Toronto repeater operational and the secondary north repeater on the air, although not at its original location.
In the last few years, we have pulled things back together and rebuilt the whole URU network, renaming it the GTA repeater system.
Basically everything is new, all the repeater equipment has been replaced, all sites are new, IRLP and Asterisk is new, all we have to do is keep it all working!
When I say we, I am usually referring to everyone that helps out, making it a group effort without the political BS!
Therefore, I would like to thank Mike Smith C/O Canadian Microwave, Point to Point Communications, Bob Kew, Jordan VE3 JZZ and Ramesh VA3 UV for helping out and providing all their expertise.
I will also add that Duane VE3 NHP deserves special credit for his knowledge in the radio field, without him our voting and simulcast system would probably not operate period, as it takes great care to set the equipment up to perform properly.
I would also like to thank my wife and family for supporting my hobby, or should I say addiction!
I probably forgot someone, but you know who you are!
Thanks!
Chris VE3 BNI.
